Recap August in Sketches

If there's a list of things you should not get tattooed on your body, pool balls should go on the list. Drawings a prefect circle is harder than most people would think, even when you don't factor in the person drawing the circles has to draw it out on a roundish piece of flesh. The numbers on the balls are also surprisingly tricky. It the kind of object that seems easy enough to draw but doesn't allow wiggle room for error.

I saw this guy at the beach while I wasn't doing any drawing. Yeah, sure, I've got some dumb tattoos myself but for god's sake the ball farthest away was REALLY drawn that much bigger than the one in front of it!!!

My wife and I caught a virus. Is what I was doing for about five hours.

I got a job washing dishes in a super fancy restaurant. No, the drawing is not pulling in the big bucks these days. So, I gotta pad my wallet with a little part time work.

Vacation Post

Hey, here are a few more pieces of artwork to to tide you over until I return from summer vacation. That's correct, I'm taking the week off from my hum-drum routine (nope, I don't have a full time job) , packing it all up and taking my family to the goddamn beach. I'll be away from an internet connection, so this will be the last post for a little while. (which is nothing new, really) I'll be drawing as hard as I can in between surfing and jamming to Jimmy Buffet, so you can all expect plenty of drawings and a killer sun tan upon my return.

One new rule I'll try to hold myself to will be that any figure draw without clothing or an identity will not count as a sketch in my "sketch a day challenge"

The Will by The Will

Greetings scum, it's your friendly neighborhood doomsayer with one finished drawings and two pencil sketches for you to judge. I didn't really consider how I would feel about publishing rough drawings until right now. This process is like standing naked in front of mean girls and letting them circle all you flaws with a sharpie marker. I hate most of my finish art enough as it is these days. So heres to hoping that this'll become the catalyst for my next big artist brake through. (Roaring sound of resolve and purpose!!!)

This is Wonder Woman, above. Wonder Woman is really one of the best new books that DC is publishing at this point. I know it feels weird to read a comic about a dumb girl who doesn't have crazy ripped muscles and explosions and stuff but it's worth the read. I promise.

This is The Will and Lying Cat from the Image book Saga.

Next time I'll try to draw some folks who aren't in the funny books so I may have to leave the house. Until then...

Keep lying, stealing and listening to heavy metal!

Daily Sketch Challenge

My friend Seth is attempting to post a sketch a day to his blog. I'll double check with him soon to see if that's still happening or if I just imaged it. (I'll also post a link to his blog next time!) It seemed like a really cool challenge for an artist to take on but like a lot of great ideas I knew I wasn't going to take part in it. After some internal debate I've reconsidered. I'm not going to post a new Blog entry everyday so settle the hell down. I'm going to try to have a few sketches up every week and hope they add up to 5/7ish drawings, representing the days of the week. Dig?

The drawing above will not count of course because it's a finished drawing. I'm still going to posted completed artwork so you're getting a bonus!

The drawing below is the first sketch of this little project. I just drew it, it's super fresh. This is the new Swamp Thing from the DC Comics relaunch. I just read the last issue and I enjoy it. It makes my friend Scott so mad he spits when he talks so that's another bonus.

Paint it Black

I was a little cranky when I wrote that last post. So here's something more up beat for my triumphant return. It's acrylic on canvas. I painted the canvas black before I started, not because I'm goth but because I think a black surface sets off color better than white. I also think that real painting is kinda cooler than painting in the old computer (a year ago I didn't feel that way so much) but there's no shame in painting with pixels if that's all you got...

I have another painting I'll share next week...Well, we'll see about that.

...And I was all, like AHHHH! AAAHHHH!!!

I don't think I've put up a post scenes Blogger changed the format around. It's been long enough so that I'm not even sure that that's true. Blogger's format changing is like a symbol all these other sudden changes that happened over the last few weeks. (months?) I handled these circumstances all by shutting down because I'm an adult and it's not cool to cry and brake everything. You know how it goes, you miss a trip to the gym, don't practice your guitar, don't smoke that rock of crack once and then it becomes easier not to do it again and again...

I'll also mention that I was out of town for this show that the flier above is for so I don't know if Humungus played that night or not.

Here's to putting out more weekly Post that NO ONE will comment on. I'm going to draw a skull and cry.
