Oh yeah, I have a T.V. show too.

I've been writing and producing a midnight movie show for my local P.B.S. channel.

Here is the first episode.

Block Party at Sundial Park

I was asked to do a postcard design to invite the neighborhood to a block party. Because I've let my lawn go so badly this summer I agreed to do it. The invitation is text heavy and I could have gotten away with no drawing at all but I did a wacky peacock anyway.

The peacock is the unofficial bird of the neighborhood because of nearby Maymont Park. I know that dose not explain anything but SHUT UP!

The drawing on the bottom is a peacock who wasn't wacky enough.

Recap August in Sketches

If there's a list of things you should not get tattooed on your body, pool balls should go on the list. Drawings a prefect circle is harder than most people would think, even when you don't factor in the person drawing the circles has to draw it out on a roundish piece of flesh. The numbers on the balls are also surprisingly tricky. It the kind of object that seems easy enough to draw but doesn't allow wiggle room for error.

I saw this guy at the beach while I wasn't doing any drawing. Yeah, sure, I've got some dumb tattoos myself but for god's sake the ball farthest away was REALLY drawn that much bigger than the one in front of it!!!

My wife and I caught a virus. Is what I was doing for about five hours.

I got a job washing dishes in a super fancy restaurant. No, the drawing is not pulling in the big bucks these days. So, I gotta pad my wallet with a little part time work.

Vacation Post

Hey, here are a few more pieces of artwork to to tide you over until I return from summer vacation. That's correct, I'm taking the week off from my hum-drum routine (nope, I don't have a full time job) , packing it all up and taking my family to the goddamn beach. I'll be away from an internet connection, so this will be the last post for a little while. (which is nothing new, really) I'll be drawing as hard as I can in between surfing and jamming to Jimmy Buffet, so you can all expect plenty of drawings and a killer sun tan upon my return.

One new rule I'll try to hold myself to will be that any figure draw without clothing or an identity will not count as a sketch in my "sketch a day challenge"

The Will by The Will

Greetings scum, it's your friendly neighborhood doomsayer with one finished drawings and two pencil sketches for you to judge. I didn't really consider how I would feel about publishing rough drawings until right now. This process is like standing naked in front of mean girls and letting them circle all you flaws with a sharpie marker. I hate most of my finish art enough as it is these days. So heres to hoping that this'll become the catalyst for my next big artist brake through. (Roaring sound of resolve and purpose!!!)

This is Wonder Woman, above. Wonder Woman is really one of the best new books that DC is publishing at this point. I know it feels weird to read a comic about a dumb girl who doesn't have crazy ripped muscles and explosions and stuff but it's worth the read. I promise.

This is The Will and Lying Cat from the Image book Saga.

Next time I'll try to draw some folks who aren't in the funny books so I may have to leave the house. Until then...

Keep lying, stealing and listening to heavy metal!

Daily Sketch Challenge

My friend Seth is attempting to post a sketch a day to his blog. I'll double check with him soon to see if that's still happening or if I just imaged it. (I'll also post a link to his blog next time!) It seemed like a really cool challenge for an artist to take on but like a lot of great ideas I knew I wasn't going to take part in it. After some internal debate I've reconsidered. I'm not going to post a new Blog entry everyday so settle the hell down. I'm going to try to have a few sketches up every week and hope they add up to 5/7ish drawings, representing the days of the week. Dig?

The drawing above will not count of course because it's a finished drawing. I'm still going to posted completed artwork so you're getting a bonus!

The drawing below is the first sketch of this little project. I just drew it, it's super fresh. This is the new Swamp Thing from the DC Comics relaunch. I just read the last issue and I enjoy it. It makes my friend Scott so mad he spits when he talks so that's another bonus.

Paint it Black

I was a little cranky when I wrote that last post. So here's something more up beat for my triumphant return. It's acrylic on canvas. I painted the canvas black before I started, not because I'm goth but because I think a black surface sets off color better than white. I also think that real painting is kinda cooler than painting in the old computer (a year ago I didn't feel that way so much) but there's no shame in painting with pixels if that's all you got...

I have another painting I'll share next week...Well, we'll see about that.

...And I was all, like AHHHH! AAAHHHH!!!

I don't think I've put up a post scenes Blogger changed the format around. It's been long enough so that I'm not even sure that that's true. Blogger's format changing is like a symbol all these other sudden changes that happened over the last few weeks. (months?) I handled these circumstances all by shutting down because I'm an adult and it's not cool to cry and brake everything. You know how it goes, you miss a trip to the gym, don't practice your guitar, don't smoke that rock of crack once and then it becomes easier not to do it again and again...

I'll also mention that I was out of town for this show that the flier above is for so I don't know if Humungus played that night or not.

Here's to putting out more weekly Post that NO ONE will comment on. I'm going to draw a skull and cry.

Windhand Wednesday

I put some ink on this last weekend. I doodled it in pencil a year or two ago and just forgot about it. Inking it was more fun than I've had drawing in a long time. On the down side, it's huge and scanning it will be a real pain in the can. The drawing also come to the very edge of the paper so if anyone wants it framed that's going to a really hateful task.

I was asking myself just last week if I would ever be asked to do more show fliers again. Just after that, I was asked to do a hand full of them. So, I'm going to be really busy for the next few weeks. Here's the first one. It's going to be a righteous show.

If you haven't heard Windhand, do yourself a favor and check 'em out! What's do they sound like? Well, do you like Black Sabbath? Of course you do!

Shut up and give them a listen!

I don't have anything funny or interesting to say discuss tonight. I'm actually getting work done, so, smell ya later!

Cold War Weak

I've been battling a cold all week. I can't draw for squat when I'm sick. I'm a big fat baby like that. Instead I colored some drawings in one of my sketch books with acrylics. I've been meaning to do this for a while. My kid really like watching the old Charlie Brown cartoon specials. The backgrounds for those are really textured and painterly. I think I've had enough Photo Shop flat coloring for a while.

So, I should really use a better camera to photograph my art if I do more of this kind of hand colored work. I probably won't get to do either for a while.

Eye Out For Occultist

Hey, Occultist is going on the road pretty soon. So you should do yourself a favor and get to the show on time and check them out. They are for the most part and D-beat punk/metal band. It's got nice mix of blacken darkness, a hint of sludge doom and crust punk influences. They used the term inverted crossover on a t-shirt and I think that best describes the sound.

I did this flier a while ago for this show.

This one below is almost unwatchable but there are so may bad-ass Tonka tough riff in the damn song I just couldn't leave it out. Of course it's also not on the demo either, so your welcome.

Check Occultist out on Band Camp!

It's Appalling, New Tiger Boss Drawings, Birds Are Calling

Man, how long ago did I start working on Tiger Boss, again? UGH! Well, here are some new drawings, finally. There are even a few other that didn't get finished and(or) scanned yet. Like always Eric Miller did the pencil and I traced 'em with ink. So, you have more Tiger Boss adventures to look forward to, lucky ducks.

Always remember, You are Tiger Boss!

Lazy Show Review & Space Ships

Anvil played in Richmond last week. I did the flier for the show that you can check out, a few posts back. Here is my lazy review of the highlight and events.

The guy who sings for Dragon Ship is the new (a few years now) guitar player for Battlemaster. He's quite good.

Volture was really good. Nick Poulos, one of the guitarist cut off his dreadlocks.

Anvil is a better live band than most of the hot snot album of the year groups playing today.

...and that was the show.

O.K. here are some space ships.

Revenge Of Thrash And Burn

I got home last night form band practice and immediately sat down and stippled in this new environment for Mr. Skull. Most of my drawings have a real weak spot for background design. Normally I just draw a black boarder around whatever is in the drawing and call it a day. From now on I'm going to stop being a lazy bum with composition and think of better background/foreground relationship.

Yeah, how many times do I make these dumb declarations?

Man, I really hope the band likes this....

Thrash and Burn, Misadventures with Coffee, Speed Metal & No Sleep.

I got a message from one of the dudes in Blasthrash asking for artwork. Blasthrash is a killer Brazilian speed metal group. I think very highly of them and it was a real thrill to have them want some of my artwork. I did this pencil drawing that very night.

A day or two later I sat down to ink the bastard. I had a bunch of coffee and really went over board of the stippling. It turned a drawing that I could have finished in a couple of hours into a drawing that took me many, many, many hours.

More Fliers

Here are a few fliers I've done in the past few months. I really wanted to do something cooler for the Anvil flier but it was a real rushed job and I didn't have the time to draw anything for it. Regardless of what's on it, it was cool to get do this at all.

This flier below ended up getting changed after Mortuary Drape and Deceased dropped off the show. This one ruled, Inquisition is indeed as good as everyone says.

Take the old ideas off the shelf, Recycle in 2012

It's a new year and I'm going to do more drawings(this time I mean it!!!) and post more art, DAMNIT! My son is two years old now. I have enough income to justify sitting at my drawing table. My life has fallen into a rhythm that I can work with so it's time to get back to work.

I've already been hard at work but my first order of business this year was to clean out my dusty dark studio and excavate enough space to work in. Instead of throwing away thousands of bits of paper I checked through stacks of old drawings, in search of something usable.

Yeah, none of this stuff is magic but it's all usable. And beats throwing it all away, too.

I did this Dan Seagraves looking thing above, at a friends house and let him keep it. This image was taken from my phone.

I did the drawing below awhile ago. One of the dudes I'm working while now made a general comment about women warriors in comix, video games, ect, never clothed in enough armor to protect their vital organ, or their not so vital organs either.

I did this drawing for an English punk band, who ended up keeping my the rough drawing, hiring another artist who inked over my work. Don't worry, I'll change the composition so it isn't the same drawing, yet again...That would be lazy and me stealing from folks who stole from me.

More soon. I'm off to the mall to run the kid and spread his cold!
